Week 1 Reflection

This week in intro to entrepreneurship we learned about the power of good leaders, and how successful businessmen have worked their way to success through trial and error. One of the videos I watched went over how different top business owners kept trying even after thousands of tries. We learned the reason behind the name of, WD-40 because it took 40 tries to find a mixture that worked well. We also learned that the owner of dyson had over 5,000 prototypes before they found the winning one. These were inspiring examples to learn from, as most of us often give up after a few tries, before we have the chance to reach true success. I’ve felt discouraged as i’ve personally switched from several different majors, most recently back to business from biology. This feels like I failed sometimes, but this weeks learning reminds me that I simply learned another career route i’m not interested in. These are all steps that will lead me closer to my goals, and i’ve gained some incredible work life experience trying out these various paths.

Another concept I learned was from the video ‘Treat life like an experiment.’ Approaching new tasks and obstacles with this perspective allows us to move past the element of fear, and accept that we will fail, perhaps multiple times. Giving ourselves that grace helps to avoid disappointment from having too high of expectations about new endeavors. My goal is to approach future obstacles with a the mindset of ‘What can I learn from this?’ and recognize that I most likely won’t figure it out on the first try. Just because something doesn’t work out in the first run doesn’t mean I should give up, as success may be right around the corner.

I’m looking forward to furthering this mindset of growth and learning through this class.
