W02 reflection

In my reading this week of 'Launching Leaders' a few principles really stood out to me. Complacency and idleness prevent us from reaching our goals. If we are content with where we are at in life and make no effort to change or improve our efforts, we will remain where we are, most likely dissatisfied with the results.  We must be consistent in all areas of our life. Living by different values at work vs. at home or at church is not a sustainable lifestyle, it's being dishonest to ourselves and others about who we truly are. In Sheri Dews talk 'True Blue, Through and Through' she speaks on the topic of integrity. She states "Living with integrity isn’t necessarily easy, but it is far easier than the alternative." I believe making the switch to live a life in line with your values will certainly be a challenge at first, as that means saying goodbye to the old version of you. However, living a life of integrity is incredibly rewarding and will provide lasti...
Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams? In the article 'The Last Lecture,' Pausch describes his childhood dreams of going to space, becoming a disney imagineer, etc. A theme I saw in all these dreams were that when he hit roadblocks where most people would give up and accept defeat, he pushed through. This meant switching careers at a time, and always pushing past the road blocks that make most people surrender.  Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not? I do think dreaming is important. It allows to believe in ourselves, even if for a small amount of time. I think dreaming big encourages us to put in the effort needed to achieve our goals. We might not always achieve the highest level of our dreams, but we will achieve a small part of them if we continue working on it. As in Pausch's life, he didn't achieve every single dream, as his dreams evolved with time and he found new versions of his dreams to fulfill. D...

Week 1 Reflection

This week in intro to entrepreneurship we learned about the power of good leaders, and how successful businessmen have worked their way to success through trial and error. One of the videos I watched went over how different top business owners kept trying even after thousands of tries. We learned the reason behind the name of, WD-40 because it took 40 tries to find a mixture that worked well. We also learned that the owner of dyson had over 5,000 prototypes before they found the winning one. These were inspiring examples to learn from, as most of us often give up after a few tries, before we have the chance to reach true success. I’ve felt discouraged as i’ve personally switched from several different majors, most recently back to business from biology. This feels like I failed sometimes, but this weeks learning reminds me that I simply learned another career route i’m not interested in. These are all steps that will lead me closer to my goals, and i’ve gained some incredible work...
